Initial Exposed Firearm

In California, security guards who wish to carry an exposed firearm while on duty must complete specific training requirements mandated by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). The Initial Exposed Firearm Training consists of a 16-hour course divided into two days

Documentation Required

  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship (e.g., Birth Certificate,U.S. Passport Book or Passport cards, DD-214, Valid Military ID, Green Card, INS paperwork)
  • Valid California driver’s license or identification card
  • Any current security guard registration documentation

Eligibility Criteria

To enroll in the Initial Exposed Firearm Training course, participants must meet the following criteria:

Be a U.S. Citizen

Be at least 18 years old.

Hold a valid California security guard registration.

Have no felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions as defined by California law.
